From study of the beloved Guardian's letters it is apparent
that what he wanted the friends to
avoid is 'specifically aggressive or directly military' activities. As regards
indirect activities it would be extremely difficult in modem society for anyone
to disassociate himself from activities which, in the long run and by
devolution, are inimical to the human race."
